LancasterHistory.org is a combination of the Lancaster County’s Historical Society and President James Buchanan’s Wheatland. This large campus contains not only an archive, library and exhibition gallery, it also has on it’s ground the Tanger Arboretum.
This national landmark has just reopened in the spring of 2013 after completing a 19,755 sq ft addition. This will now include new research facilities. learning centers, collection storage areas and educational auditorium.
Part of their initiative is to make the center more park-like and visitor friendly. The arboretum contains aver 100 different species of trees.
There is a separate charge for Wheatland.
Late tours on Tuesday and Thursdays
The legend continues at Jason’s Woods with the signature Haunted Hayride. Each year new haunted attractions are built around the terrifying tour through the woods. In addition to all the attractions, live events and contests are featured each weekend.
Bands, contests, competitions, food and fun are all available each weekend from late September until Halloween.
As of 2011, the price includes 3 of 5 attractions, plus 2 bonus features. Check website for more information.

Sandcastle Waterpark is set alongside the Monongahela River on an old rail yard for a steelworks facility.
Opened in 1989, Sandcastle now boasts 14 attractions, including slides, pools, kids play areas and the worlds largest hot tub.
Among the waterslides are the Blue Tubaluba, the Boardwalk Blasters, Lightning Express and more!
The kids can relax in Wet Willie’s Water Works, while adults can cool off in the Sandbar Pool or the Lazy River.
Sandcastle is only minutes from Pittsburgh’s “Golden Triangle”, proving that you don’t need to drive hours from the city to get to a wet and wild water attraction.
